It’s all about being organized and well-prepared for the season ahead. Each year as the holidays hit, we know that after the whirlwind of celebration we will face another tax season full of intense mental activity. Rather than being paralyzed like a deer staring into the headlights I’d like to share with you some of the things you can do RIGHT NOW to make tax season run so smoothly that YOU can actually take a two-week vacation right in the middle of it! I utilize two tools that I find absolutely critical to a safe and sane tax season: Pre-scheduled appointments and Organizers.
Pre-Scheduled Appointments
YOU are in control of your tax season! It should run when you want it to! By pre-scheduling your client appointments you are creating a blueprint for a successful, well-planned tax season. Without it you are driving blind and risking a head on collision with disaster.
The Almighty Calendar
If you’ve ever been in traffic before, then you know the meaning of stress; losing control, lack of progress, and roadblocks. These are all the same kinds of things you run into when running a tax practice as well. But one thing is different. You are powerless to deal with the traffic on the freeway, but you are not powerless to deal with what goes on in your tax practice. These stress creators are simply a result of poor planning and can be easily dealt with by using the most powerful tool in your toolbox: the calendar. Think of your calendar as your personal time-management coach forcing you to be efficient. It is telling you what to do and when to do it. And the best part about it is that it’s practically free, yet will literally make you tons of money if you set it up correctly. After all, in our business, time is money and if you are wasting time, then you might as well be throwing away your money.
